Waychoff Provides Offense and Scot Defense Posts Another Shutout
WOOSTER, Ohio - Nick Waychoff scored one second-half goal and assisted on another, lifting The College of Wooster past visiting Wittenberg University 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference men’s soccer action late Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field. Wooster (8-1-1, 2-0-1 NCAC) had a man-advantage for nearly 60 minutes of the match after a Wittenberg player was issued a red card in the 32nd minute. The Scots, though, couldn’t take advantage until early in the second half. After a series of unsuccessful runs into the box, Waychoff gained possession about 40 yards out, passed it left to Trevor Day, who dribbled a couple of times towards the goal, then pulled it out and found Waychoff wide open at the top of the box. Wyaychoff, in turn, blasted the ball into the lower right corner for his second goal of the season, ending a 300-plus minute scoreless streak for Wooster. The Tigers (4-6-2, 0-2-1 NCAC) nearly came up with the equalizer on a couple of occasions. During the 63rd minute, Wittenberg got two shots off in the box, but both were saved by Scot ‘keeper Erik Larson, and with just under 9:00 remaining, Matt Borland had a good look, but his shot was wide left by a foot or two. Steve Fracasso tacked on an insurance goal with 1:18 left, heading one in from just outside the goal mouth on the left after Waychoff lofted a pass to him from the right wing. Larson completed the shutout, marking his sixth in 10 matches this season, while two Tiger goalies combined for three saves. Next up for Wooster is a conference match at Allegheny College (8-2-2, 2-2-0 NCAC) Wednesday night. |
