Heidelberg College put the finishing touches on a tough weekend for The College of Wooster’s men’s soccer team Sunday, as the Ohio Athletic Conference foe squeaked past the Fighting Scots 3-2 in action at Oberlin, Ohio.
Heidelberg jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to an own goal by the Scots and a score by Charlie Sales. Wooster looked reenergized coming out the halftime break and knotted the match up in the first 15 minutes of play on a Karl Ruter goal, assisted by Aaron Oster-Beal, and a score from Scott Buckwald assisted by Brenton Allen.
Heidelberg scored the decisive goal on a tally by Robbie Marks with nearly 20 minutes remaining for the final margin.
On the defensive end, the Scots held their own allowing 10 shots and just one corner kick. Two goalies each played a half, with freshman Patryk Tenorio suffering the tough-luck loss making two saves during the second stanza.
Wooster (0-2) looks to rebound Saturday evening when it takes to the pitch against another OAC foe in Marietta College (1-0-1) at 7 p.m.
