No. 2 Case Western Reserve Shuts Down Wooster, 3-0
The College of Wooster men’s soccer team was shutout for the first time this season, as host Case Western Reserve University prevailed in a non-conference match-up behind a pair of first-half goals and an early second half tally during a Wednesday night affair in Cleveland.
Case Western (8-0, 0-0 UAA), ranked first in the Great Lakes Region and No. 2 in all of NCAA Div. III in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) polls, scored just 15:36 into play and made it 2-0 in the 34th minute, while outshooting the Fighting Scots 10-2 during the opening half. Goalkeeper Jordan O’Boyle helped Wooster (5-3, 1-0 NCAC) stay within striking distance, as he registered six saves in the first 45 minutes of action. Patryk Tenorio collected one save during the second half for the Scots in net as Case Western’s Matt Pagila recorded his third goal of the game just over six minutes into the second half giving the Spartans a 3-0 advantage.
The Scots’ offense never found a rhythm in either half, sending just two more shots towards the Spartans’ net in the second period.
In goal, the Spartans’ Chad Skidmore was forced to make two saves for the match to preserve his shutout.
Wooster will aim to get back to its winning form Saturday when it gets back into North Coast Athletic Conference action. The Scots will travel to Springfield, Ohio and square off against Wittenberg University (7-2-1, 1-0-0 NCAC) at 7:30 p.m.
