Wooster Storms Back from 1-0 Deficit to Topple JCU 3-1
The College of Wooster found itself in an early 1-0 hole late Saturday night at John Carroll University, but then easily cruised past the Blue Streaks 3-1 during a non-conference men’s soccer match that was televised by SportsTime Ohio. John Carroll (3-4) lit up the scoreboard 13:53 into the action only to see the Fighting Scots (3-2) take a lead that they would not relinquish less than 15 minutes later. First, Karl Ruter knotted things up in the 21st minute when he scored off a direct kick, marking the sophomore’s third goal in four games played this year. During the 29th minute, Wooster took advantage of a breakaway, with Scott Buckwald finishing the scoring opportunity for his second goal on the young season. Early in the second half, the Scots gained a two-goal cushion as Nick Waychoff connected on his second goal this fall. The Blue Streaks ended up with a 14-8 shot advantage, but Wooster made better use of its chances and its goalies, Patryk Tenorio and Jordan O’Boyle, combined for four saves to preserve the victory. During the first half, Tenorio made two saves, the same number O’Boyle had in a scoreless second. The Scots continue non-league play Wednesday when they host Muskingum College (4-2) at 5 p.m. |
