In what proved to be a battle of the defenses, Kenyon College broke down first, as The College of Wooster men's soccer team squeaked out a 1-0 victory. The win halted the Lords’ 10-game winning streak Saturday afternoon at a sunny Carl Dale Memorial Field as a part of Wooster’s “Homecoming” weekend.

Both teams battled back and forth throughout the entire first period, with the game scoreless entering the half. Kenyon dominated the shot chart during the first period, holding a 10-0 advantage during the first 45 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the Wooster net.

With time ticking away in period two, the Scots (6-4-1, 2-1-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) were able to score what proved to be the game-winner in the 76th minute as Scott Buckwald found Nick Waychoff off a corner kick. The goal was Waychoff’s third of the fall and Buckwald’s first helper.

Kenyon (10-2-0, 3-1-0 NCAC) once again held a decisive 9-5 shot total in the second half and out-shot the Scots 19-5 during the contest. Freshman net minders Patryk Tenorio and Jordan O’Boyle picked five saves apiece for Wooster in the shutout, while Jamie White recorded one save for the Lords.

Wooster will travel to Hiram and continue NCAC action against the Terriers this Tuesday. Game time is set for 4:30.
