Oberlin, Wooster Play to 0-0 Deadlock
WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster had a couple of quality scoring opportunities late, but was unable to light up the scoreboard, settling for a 0-0 tie with visiting Oberlin College Wednesday afternoon in the schools’ North Coast Athletic Conference men’s soccer match. With no score, the action and intensity began to pick up about midway through the second half. First, John Lindner of Oberlin (6-3-3, 1-1-1 NCAC) dribbled through a pair of defenders and blasted a shot towards the net, but it deflected off another member of the backfield. Then, Wooster (5-4-1, 1-1-1 NCAC) would control the majority of the final 25 minutes of regulation, including clear shots by Davis Bates and Nick Waychoff, both of which went just wide. The best scoring chance for either squad came in the second overtime when the Scots were awarded a free kick just outside the right corner of the goal box. Jason Bowie took it, firing the ball towards the lower right corner only to see the Yeomen’s Zach Lipshultz make a diving save. The two teams were evenly matched, with Wooster holding a slight overall edge in shots (10-9). Lipshultz was credited with three saves and a shutout, while Scot goalkeepers Patryk Tenorio and Jordan O’Boyle combined for three saves. The Scots will be at Carl Dale Memorial Field again this Saturday, as they welcome the NCAC’s first-place team, Kenyon College (10-1, 3-0 NCAC), for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. |
