Sophomore Brian Ebbitts (Mission Hills, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) and freshman Ted Hickey (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake) of The College of Wooster men's tennis team earned their first career postseason honors by being named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Second Team in doubles as announced by league officials on Thursday. Joining the duo on the all-league team were freshman Conor Boyle (Bangor, Northern Ireland) and senior Alec Garnett (Boulder, Colo. / Fairview), who both picked up honorable mention accolades as singles players.

Hickey and Ebbitts teamed up at the end of the year and quickly made their mark, posting a 6-2 record at first doubles. The tandem swept through the conference tournament with wins of 8-4 over Ohio Wesleyan University, 8-5 against Denison University, and 8-4 over Oberlin College in helping the Scots to a third-place finish overall.

Boyle, an exchange student, was given the difficult task of competing with some of the top players in the region at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and wound up with a 5-13 record overall, including a 4-11 mark at the top spot. He ended the season on a strong note in the NCAC Tournament, winning at second singles against Ohio Wesleyan's Dilshad Abeygunawardana in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-1), and then battling back to defeat Nick Ogren of Oberlin at No. 1 singles 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-3.

Garnett picked up his first postseason distinction following a spring season which saw him play at four different positions in the lineup and post an 8-10 overall record. He spent the most time at No. 2 singles where he went 6-5, including a victory in his only NCAC East Division match at that slot. For his career, Garnett won 38 singles matches (38-43), while playing at all six positions in the lineup, including marks of 8-6 at No. 2 and 14-10 at No. 4.

As a team, Wooster closed out the year by winning two of three matches at the NCAC Tournament for a third-place finish. Overall, the Scots wound up 16-6 in 2005 and have a two-year mark of 33-13 overall. In NCAC Divisional play, Wooster finished 3-1 for the fifth consecutive season, with the only loss coming at the hands of conference-champion Kenyon College.
