Morrison, Ebbitts Both Garner All-NCAC Accolades
After turning in another impressive campaign, College of Wooster senior Will Morrison (Delaware, Ohio / Rutherford B. Hayes) headlined the Fighting Scots’ 2007 all-North Coast Athletic Conference selections for men’s tennis as he earned a second consecutive first-team honor, announced the league office Tuesday after a vote by the head coaches. Joining Morrison on the All-NCAC Team was classmate Brian Ebbitts (Mission Hills, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East), who received honorable mention as a singles player for the second-straight year. Morrison, now a three-time first-team all-NCAC award winner, turned in his best season, winning a career-high 12 dual matches (12-10), all while playing some of the top players from across the NCAA Div. III Central Region at No. 1 singles. Morrison himself was ranked 24th in the region at one point. He finished on a positive note, prevailing in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-4) during the third-place match of the NCAC Tournament against Allegheny College. Despite seeing very limited action his sophomore season due to a back injury, Morrison won over 40 career matches in singles, going 41-34, including 24-21 at the No. 1 position. Ebbitts led Wooster in victories in 2007, accumulating a 13-7 record while floating between the Nos. 2-5 spots in the lineup. Most of his action came at third singles (7-3), and also of note, he turned in an outstanding conference season, going 6-1 in NCAC duals. For his career, Ebbitts, who was not only a two-time all-league singles player but also two-time all-NCAC in doubles with Ted Hickey, registered similar records of 48-29 in singles, highlighted by 18-5 at No. 3, and 44-28 in doubles. As a team, the Scots found themselves in the third-place match at the NCAC Tournament for the third-straight year, but lost this time to Allegheny 5-2 to claim fourth-place. Wooster concluded 2007 with a 15-8 overall record, marking the third time in four seasons it has compiled at least 15 wins. |
