Scot Men's Tennis Falls Just Short Again
For the fourth time in six matches on its spring break trip at
Hilton Head, S.C., the Wooster men's tennis team lost by a 4-3 margin, as
Georgetown College beat the Scots on March 16.
The top of the lineup and doubles play was the difference, as the
Tigers won at singles spots one, three, and four, and swept the doubles.
In his third career match at number-one singles, Wooster sophomore
Jake Sintich lost to Edgar Saborit 6-3, 6-2. Junior Paul Wiley came up
with a big win for the Scots at number-two singles, posting a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2
decision over Michael Cummingham.
Georgetown's Clayton Hall breezed past junior Nikhil Padivac with a
score of 6-1, 6-1 at number-three and Matt Cook came through with a 6-2,
7-5 victory over Wooster freshman Clint Bailey at the fourth singles
position.
The Scots' Jim Sayed and Brandon Lichtman kept the team in the
match with wins at fifth and sixth singles. Sayed, a sophomore, beat Kelly
Horseman 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2 in the fifth spot, while Lichtman, a freshman,
topped Rob Lawson 6-4, 6-4 at number-six.
The Tigers, starting with Cunningham and Saborit beating Lichtman
and Sintich 8-2 at the top spot, controlled the doubles action. Cook and
Hall won 8-6 against junior Kirk Lapham and Sayed in second doubles, while
Horseman and Lawson completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory over Bailey and
Wiley at number-three.
