Scot Men Netters Fall to Illinois Wesleyan
In men's tennis action, Wooster lost 4-3 to Illinois Wesleyan in a
match played at Hilton Head, S.C.
The highlight individual match came at the number-one singles
position, as Scot sophomore Jake Sintich held off Chris Jetton for the 6-7
(4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
Illinois Wesleyan was victorious at three of the next four
positions in the order, including Nate Bobofchak's 6-3, 6-2 win against
junior Rob Ogg at number-two and Phil Weinekt's 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over
junior Paul Wiley in the third position. Earning a point for Wooster
despite dropping the first set 6-0 was Wooster junior Nikhil Padival, who
came back to beat Brian Diemer 7-5, 6-2 at number-four singles. In a
battle of freshmen, Illinois Wesleyan's Will Weltman registered a 6-1, 6-4
win over Brandon Lichtman.
Also, Scot freshman Clint Bailey won the sixth singles match by a
6-2, 6-2 margin against Chris Laz.
Doubles play saw Illinois Wesleyan take the top two spots to secure
the point, while Wooster won at number-three. Bobofchak and Jetton stopped
Ogg and Wiley with a convincing 8-3 victory at first doubles, while Diemer
and Weltman were nearly taken the distance before Lichtman and Sintich
succumbed 9-7 at number-two. Scot junior Kirk Lapham and sophomore Jim
Sayed came up big in third double with a 9-7 decision against Rob Kolar and
Weinert.
