Scots Down Longwood For First Win of the Season
Wooster's men's tennis team played its third-straight 4-3 match to
start the season, and this time the Scots came out on top, beating Longwood
by the narrow margin.
In the top half of singles play, all three matches went the maximum
three sets. Wooster junior Rob Ogg lost to Igor Bilalagic at number-one by
a score of 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, while Scot sophomore Jake Sintich and
junior Paul Wiley prevailed in their respective three-set affairs. Sintich
dropped the first set 6-4, but went on to take sets two and three 6-4, 6-4
from Gorjan Bilalagic at second singles. Wiley improved to 3-0 on the year
at number-three by beating Longwood's Jeff Henly 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
Longwood took two of the singles matches in positions four through
six to tie the match. Paul Petersen defeated Wooster junior Nikhil Padivac
in the fourth spot (no score reported), Longwood's Mirea Iljazovic cruised
past freshman Brandon Lichtman 6-2, 6-2 at number-five, and Scot freshman
Clint Bailey beat Matt Graham 6-1, 6-4 in the sixth-singles match.
Wooster secured the match by winning the doubles point. Ogg and
Wiley teamed up to take down Petersen and Henley 8-2 at the top spot, while
Sintich and Lichtman got past Bilalagic and Iljazovic at number-two 8-5.
The third doubles match between the Scots' sophomore Jim Sayed and junior
Matt Bierlein and Bilalagic and Graham was not completed.
