Scot Netters Take Fifth-Place At NCAC's


The College of Wooster men's tennis team completed its season today (May 6) with a 4-1 win over Wabash, avenging a setback to the Little Giants previously in the year (Feb. 19). The victory gave the Scots a fifth-place finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Granville, Ohio, and an overall record of 11-12.

Wooster took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping Wabash in the doubles competition. Junior Rob Ogg and sophomore Jake Sintich were 8-4 winners at number-one, junior Matt Bierlein and sophomore Jim Sayed posted an 8-4 victory in the second position, and junior Kirk Lapham and freshman Brandon Lichtman finished the sweep with an 8-3 decision at number-three.

Clinching the win for the Scots in the singles matches were sophomore Paul Wiley, Sayed, and freshman Clint Bailey. At number-three, Wiley easily defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-1, Sayed won 6-0, 6-4 at number-five, and Bailey ended the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at number-six.

Denison defeated Kenyon 4-0 in the championship match to claim the NCAC title.
