Scot Men's Tennis Loses Tight Season-Opener
Wabash defeated Wooster 4-3 in a tightly contested match to open
the 2000 season. The Little Giants were victorious in three singles
matches, including two three-setters, and a pair of 9-7 doubles matches to
earn another point to clinch the match.
Scot sophomore Jake Sintich's debut in the number-one spot was a
tough one, as he fell to Mark Ratner in three sets (6-4, 0-6, 6-3).
Picking up wins for Wooster at the number-two and number-three singles
positions were junior Rob Ogg and sophomore Paul Wiley, as Ogg downed
Constantine Alexander (6-3, 6-3) and Wiley breezed past Daniel Altman (6-0,
6-1).
Todd Witte gave Wabash another three-set victory at number-four
singles over junior Mike Kuschnir (0-6, 6-1, 6-3). The Scots and Little
Giants split the fifth and sixth singles spots with Wabash's Andrew Shelton
defeating junior Matt Bierlein at number-five (6-4, 6-3) and Wooster junior
Nikhil Padival sweeping Brian Miller at number-six (6-2, 6-3).
In doubles, Ratner and Miller beat Sintich and Kuschnir at
number-one (9-7), while Witte and Altman stopped Scot freshmen Clint Bailey
