Men's Netters End Spring Trip on Positive Note
Following a highly-competitive slate of matches during its spring
trip, The College of Wooster men's tennis team concluded its annual venture
to Hilton Head, S.C., on a positive note by cruising past Illinois Wesleyan
University 7-0.
"After playing two top Division III Southern Region teams and a top
NAIA college, it was a nice change to play consistently well," commented
Scot coach Hayden Schilling upon returning to Wooster. "Our top three
singles players ü played very well and our doubles teams were dominant."
Wooster swept Illinois Wesleyan with ease, only giving up a
combined three games in doubles play and then winning all six singles
matches in straight sets.
Senior Rob Ogg and junior Jake Sintich moved to 4-0 on the season
at first doubles with an 8-2 win, followed by senior Matt Bierlein and
junior Jim Sayed, who topped their opponents 8-1 at the second flight.
Recording an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles were sophomore Brandon Lichtman
and freshman Nilesh Saldanha.
Saldanha led off the singles lineup with a 6-3, 6-4 victory, and
Sintich won 6-4, 6-1 while playing his first match at No. 2 singles this
season. Ogg, who had played the Scots' first five matches at the second
position, earned a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 3.
Bierlein beat his opponent 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles, while
freshman Marc Patterson and sophomore Clint Bailey completed the sweep,
winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles, respectively.
Wooster, which returns North with a 2-4 overall record, will play
at Ohio Northern University on Thursday, March 29, at 4 p.m.
