Men's Tennis Falls to W&L 5-2
The College of Wooster men's tennis teams won at No. 1 and No. 2
singles, as well as the top doubles flight against traditional power
Washington & Lee University, but lost at the remaining positions, leading
to a 5-2 setback in Lexington, Va.
Wooster's Rob Ogg and Jake Sintich, who earned all-league honors as
a doubles team last year, teamed up for the first time this spring and won
8-6 at No. 1 doubles, but the Scots' other two duos only combined for a
total of five games en route to Washington & Lee earning the doubles point.
In singles, Wooster's top player - freshman Nilesh Saldanha -
outlasted the Generals' Rhys James 6-3, 6-7, 6-1, while Ogg also posted a
three-set victory at No. 2 over Andrew Roberts (3-6, 6-3, 6-2). Sintich, on
the other hand, was on the wrong end of another three-set thriller, falling
6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to Austin Kim at third singles.
Washington & Lee won the remaining singles matches in straight
sets. Graham Nix topped senior Matt Bierlein 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4, K.C.
Schaefer won 6-2, 6-3 against sophomore Brandon Lichtman at the fifth
singles spot, and Chris Sorenson beat freshman Marc Patterson 6-3, 6-2 at
No. 6.
Wooster is now 1-2 on the young season and continues play this week
on its spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C.
