The College of Wooster men’s tennis team demonstrated its depth Thursday afternoon, as it won the second and third doubles positions and all three singles matches in the bottom-half of the lineup to edge visiting Case Western Reserve University 4-3 in non-conference competition.

The key match may have come at No. 3 doubles, where Will Morrison and Chris Mickelson triumphed 9-8 via a tiebreaker (7-1) to give Wooster the first point. Brian Ebbitts and Dan Fleszar had already won 8-4 at second doubles.

Ahead 1-0 entering singles play, the Scots used victories at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to offset straight-set losses at the top of the order. Morrison prevailed in a close two-setter over Jonathan Waldman at the fourth spot 6-4, 7-6 (5), Ebbitts came back after dropping the first set to Alex Wellems at No. 5 and won 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, and Nikhil Gonsalves completed the bottom-half sweep via a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Cory Darrow.

Next, Wooster (8-1) will open up its North Coast Athletic Conference divisional schedule with another home match this Saturday (April 2) against Hiram College (1-4, 0-1 NCAC East) at 1 p.m.
