Scots Go 5-1 During Six-Match Swing in Hilton Head
The College of Wooster men’s tennis team won five of six matches during its spring break trip (March 16-21) to Hilton Head, S.C., improving its season record to 7-2. Highlighting the trip was a regional victory against Hope College (7-2) as well as a thrilling 5-4 decision over St. Lawrence University, while the Fighting Scots’ lone setback came at the hands of regionally-ranked Carleton College (0-9). Additionally, Wooster easily downed Hobart College (7-2), Roger Williams University (9-0), and Messiah College (7-2). At the top of the singles lineup, Will Morrison won four times, upping his season mark to 6-3 at the No. 1 position and 18-14 for his career. Grant D’Augustine held down the No. 2 spot for the majority of the trip, going 3-2 there, while Dave Albrechta played the other match at No. 2 and went 2-3 overall, shifting from anywhere between the second and fifth slots. The Scots’ depth was the key to their success, as the most successful individual was Pat Grab, who combined for five singles victories in the middle of the lineup (1-0 at No. 3, 4-1 at No. 4). Also of note, Brian Ebbitts (2-2 at No. 3, 1-0 at No. 5) and Jeremy Dominik (1-0 at No. 4, 2-2 at No. 6) contributed three wins apiece. In doubles action, D’Augustine and Grab were the most successful pairing with a 5-1 record (2-1 at No. 1, 3-0 at No. 2). Also teaming up consistently were Albrechta and Sam Hickey (0-2 at No. 1, 1-0 at No. 2, 1-2 at No. 3) and Ebbitts and Dan Fleszar (0-2 at No. 2, 3-0 at No. 3). Wooster’s regular season resumes next Thursday with a trip to Ohio Northern University (2-3). |
