The College of Wooster men’s and women’s track & field teams will be at Denison University for the second consecutive week, this time for the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Relays. Events are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., inside the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio. Last year, Wabash College and the Ohio Wesleyan University women took home top honors, while the Wooster men finished in fifth and the women placed fourth.

Last Week: On Jan. 26, Suzanne Capehart (Oakton, Va. / Oak Hill) and Elizabeth Wardrop (Rockford, Mich. / American School of The Hague) won events while making their collegiate track & field debuts to highlight the Fighting Scots’ individual results at the Denison Lid-Lifter in Granville, Ohio. It was not a team-scored meet.

Capehart, coming off an all-NCAC cross country season, led the pack in the mile with a 5:32.21 time, about five seconds ahead of the runner-up, while Wardrop made her impact in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 10.25 inches, which is only 3.75 inches off the school record. Veteran Kayla Miller (Mercer, Pa. / Mercer Area) picked up where she left off in the triple jump, as the two-time all-NCAC honoree hit a winning mark of 33 feet, 10.75 inches.

Wooster’s other top women’s performers also came in the field. Ali Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) and Katie Dale (West Point, Ind. / McCutcheon), both juniors, were second-place in the pole vault (9 feet, 0.25 inches) and shot put (34 feet, 11 inches), respectively.

On the men’s side, Dierre Taylor (Akron, Ohio / Garfield) got his third campaign with the Scots off to a good start, edging Carnegie Mellon University’s Chris Luther at the line for a victory in the 55-meter hurdles (8.25 to 8.28). Taylor owns the Wooster record in that event (7.85).

Also on the track, sophomore Bryan Albani (Warren, Ohio / Howland) was the runner-up in the 55 meters (6.88) and senior Rudy Gilman (Silverton, Ore. / Silverton Union) took third-place in the 3000 meters (9:07.65). In the field, senior Steve Zumbrun (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Central Catholic) was runner-up in the shot put (44 feet, 4.25 inches,) while sophomore Eric Dyer (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) placed third in both the long jump (18 feet, 11.75 inches) and triple jump (41 feet, 5.25 inches).
