After second-place finishes at their own Wooster Invitational, The College of Wooster men’s and women’s track & field teams will look to keep the momentum going this week. On Saturday, April 5, the Fighting Scots will be part of the 15-team field at Malone College’s Jack Hazen Open, a meet they have not traditionally been a part of. Both field and running events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

Last Week: On March 29, both Wooster teams turned in runner-up performances at the Wooster Invitational, the Scots’ lone home meet of the season. The women scored 112 points and the men 91, while Walsh University was the team champion in the 10-team women’s field with 197 points and Notre Dame (Ohio) College’s 122 points edged Wooster for the men’s title.

Headlining the Scots’ individual results was Ali Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes), who won two events and placed second in another. She started the day by topping a 22-member field in the javelin with a throw of 117 feet, 10 inches and then raced her way to another title in the 400-meter hurdles, hitting the line in 1:11.79. The versatile Drushal cleared 9 feet, 6.25 inches in the pole vault, good for second, and also was part of a relay.

The Wooster women had two other winners in Suzanne Capehart (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) and Kayla Miller (Mercer, Pa. / Mercer Area). Capehart bested a group of 24 peers in the 1500 meters, finishing with a time of 5:02.44, in addition to her fourth-place run in the 800 (2:29.29). Miller was the day’s top triple jumper, reaching a mark of 34 feet, 1.5 inches, to go with third- and seventh-place efforts in the long jump (15 feet, 2.25 inches) and high jump (4 feet, 11.5 inches), respectively. Other top-three showings were Katie Dale’s (West Point, Ind. / McCutcheon) runner-up discus throw (109 feet, 8 inches) and KateLynn Riley’s (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) third-place finishes in both the 100 hurdles (16.98) and javelin (93 feet, 6 inches).

The Scot men picked up the majority of their points in the field events, highlighted by Eric Dyer (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) in the triple jump. He hit a mark of 43 feet, 3.25 inches and not far back was teammate Tristan Jordan (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) in third (41 feet, 4.25 inches), while Ramses Clements (Chicago, Ill. / De la Salle) and Averell Gatton (McLean, Va. / Langley) also produced scoring as they were fifth (39 feet, 3 inches) and seventh (38 feet, 8.25 inches), respectively. Another strong event was the javelin, in which Wooster’s Tobias Bokum-Fauth (Norwich, Vt. / Hanover), Steve Zumbrun (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Central Catholic), and Seth Stuck (Cumming, Ga. / Salem) took second (140 feet, 5 inches), third (139 feet, 4 inches), and fourth (135 feet, 4 inches) in that order. Zumbrun had another third-place showing in the shot put (43 feet, 7.75 inches), as did Gatton in the long jump (19 feet, 3.25 inches). On the track, Mark DeWine (Cedarville, Ohio / Bishop O’Connell – Va.) led the Scots via a third-place finish in the 5000 meters (16:00.91).
