Scot Track Competes at Low-Key Big Red Invitational
The College of Wooster sent a small group of its indoor track and field team to compete at the annual Big Red Invitational this past Saturday (Feb. 15). The non-scoring meet featured men and women from Carnegie Mellon University, Cedarville University, host Denison University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, West Virginia State College, and Wooster competing for individual honors. Individually, Will Driscoll was the Scots' lone winner as he took first in the high jump, clearing a height of six feet, one inch. Multiple scorers for the Wooster men included Nathan Collins, who was second in the pole vault (13 feet) and fourth in the triple jump (39'04.00"); Corey Humphrey, who produced a third in the high jump (5'08.00") and fifths in the long jump (19'02.75") and triple jump (38'07.00");° Michael Jourden, who was third in the shot put (37 feet) and fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.81); and Nii Djan Tackie, who finished runner-up in the triple jump (43 feet) and sixth in both the 55 meters (6.90) and long jump (19'02.00"). Other noteworthy performances came from Matt Knepp, who was the runner-up in the 55-meter dash (6.83), and Chris Taft, who took third in the 1500 meters (4:15.17). On the women's side, sophomore Jennie Stockdale turned in the Scots' top performance with a second-place finish in the 3000 meters (10:45.34). Also placing for Wooster was Kathy McCreaty in sixth in the 1500 meters (5:14.09), while rounding out their top finishers were Julie Draper, who was eighth in the long jump (13'08.50"), and Heather Reed, who earned eighth in the 55-meter hurdles (10.75). The Scots return to action this Friday (Feb. 21) at the Greater Cleveland Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College at 6 p.m. |
