Doran-Myers Wins High Jump, Ties School Record to Highlight NCAC Relays

The College of Wooster traveled a partial squad to the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays, hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., where the Scots placed eighth of 10 teams in the men’s competition and ninth of nine in the women’s division on Saturday (Jan. 31).

Wabash and the Ohio Wesleyan University women won their respective meets, recording 86 points apiece, while Wooster finished with 25- (men) and 24-point (women) totals.

The highlight of the meet for the Scots came via freshman Dana Doran-Myers, who led all individuals in the high jump, clearing five feet, two inches. That mark tied the school’s indoor record, also achieved by Holly Halterman way back in 1985.

Also for the Wooster women, sophomore Juliann Draper finished 10th and 11th in the long jump (14 feet, 4.5 inches) and triple jump (29 feet, two inches), respectively, while on the track, the Scots’ top relay was the 4x400 meters, consisting of Jessica Love, Katie Wieferich, Hannah Bierlein, and Laura Barnhart. They came in fourth-place (4:32.84).

In men’s action, Nii Djan Tackie and James Williams led Wooster with a fourth-place performance (39 feet, 9.75 inches) in the long jump relay, with Williams taking sixth overall (20 feet, 2.25 inches) and Tackie eighth (19 feet, 7.5 inches). Tackie was third in the triple jump (41 feet, 3.25 inches) as well.

Williams and Tackie teamed up with Mark Ballinger and Brian Barnes for the team’s highest finish in relay action, as they placed third in the 4x200 (1:37.76).

The Scots did not travel their pole vault or throwing units, or women’s distance runners, all of whom are expected to be major contributors later this season, to Wabash.
