Nine Scots Among Top-20 at Ohio State Relays
The College of Wooster mens and women's track and field teams battled brisk winds and stiff competition at the Ohio State Relays this past weekend (April 3) in Columbus. The meet was not scored, as student-athletes from about a dozen schools, including Div. I powers Ohio State University, Purdue University, and West Virginia University among others, battled for individual honors. For the Scots, one of the top performances came from Keith Vance once again, as the senior took eighth-place in the shot put (49 feet, five inches). Also in the throws, freshman Rick Drushal finished 10th in the shot put (46 feet, eight inches) and 14th in the discus (131 feet, four inches), while senior Marc Bryson was ninth in the javelin (146 feet, four inches). On the track, freshman Tim Presto produced Woosters highest placement, coming in ninth in the 1500 meters (4:15.45). Sophomore Mark Ballinger posted a pair of top-20 efforts, earning 14th- and 20th-place in the 400 (53.41) and 200 meters (23.90), respectively, while classmate Chris Taft was 13th in the 800 meters (2:00.78). In womens action, junior hurdler Heather Reed and sophomore distance-specialist Kathy McCreary each recorded two top-20 showings. Reed crossed the finish line eighth in the 400- (1:15.22) and 12th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.45). In addition, junior Emily Moore came in 14th in the 800 meters (2:34.61). The Scot track teams will be at Ohio Wesleyan University for the Marv Frye Invitational next Friday (April 9), with action taking place throughout the day. |
