The College of Wooster track and field teams continued their outdoor season Friday (April 9) at the annual Marv Frye/Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational, with the men’s squad taking eighth and the women placing 12th in the 13-team field with 31 and 14 total points, respectively.

Otterbein College won both the men’s (145) and women’s (114.5) team titles.

Individually, four Scot men placed in the top-five of their respective events, two in field events and two on the track. The shot put once again proved to be a strong point, as senior Keith Vance was the runner-up (49 feet, eight inches) and freshman Rick Drushal followed in fourth overall (45 feet, 9.75 inches). Sophomore Chris Taft crossed the finish line fourth in the 800 meters at 1:58.66 and junior Matt Linman ran to fifth-place in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:58.13.

Two other scorers for Wooster were freshman Tim Presto and senior Patrick Wynne, running sixth in the 800 meters (1:59.14) and seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:41.90), respectively.

The Scot women had two individuals score for the team, as well as a relay, while several others were right behind. Sophomore Jill Berner won the pole vault competition with a height of 10 feet even – already her second victory of the outdoor season – while freshman distance runner Katie Wieferich finished the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:25.58, giving her sixth overall.

Other notable performances included freshman Dana Doran-Myers tying for ninth in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches), sophomore Kate Legg clearing eight feet to take 10th in the pole vault, and junior Heather Reed finishing 11th in both the 100 (16.57) and 400 hurdles (1:12.42).

Next weekend (April 16-17), Wooster will compete in the All-Ohio Championships, also hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
