Delhagen, Turner Compete at Campbell / Wright Open
Freshman Kelly Patton recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 100-meter hurdles to lead a quartet of Fighting Scot track and field competitors on Saturday, April 7, at the Campbell/Wright Open hosted by Akron University. The non-scoring event featured a slew of individuals and teams from all collegiate divisions as well as athletes independent of any affiliation, all of which were attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held later this month. Patton raced to a season-best time of 15.47 in the hurdles, finishing seventh overall behind competitors from Div. I and II schools. Her pace put her fifth in Wooster history in the event, 1.12 seconds behind Darlene Kemp's record of 14.35 set in 1982. Jill Berner, Colin Turner, and Taylor Delhagen also finished among the leaders in their respective events. Berner cleared a height of 10 feet, 11.75 inches in the pole vault to tie for eighth-place overall, while Turner and Delhagen each finished 11th in the 800 and 3000 meters, respectively, with times of 2:00.57 and 9:11.14. Wooster's track and field student athletes will continue to pursue qualifying marks for the NCAA Div. III Championships at the Ohio Elite Invitational hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, on Saturday, May 14. |
