The College of Wooster indoor track and field teams both took eighth-place at this weekend’s (Jan. 29) North Coast Athletic Conference Relays, hosted by Denison University, with the women totaling 30 points in their field and the men scoring 25.

Wooster’s top event was the women’s pole vault, in which it tied for first. The Scots tandem of juniors Jill Berner and Kate Legg combined for 17 feet, which equaled Denison’s effort. Individually, Berner cleared a height of nine feet, six inches to finish second overall, while Legg reached a mark of seven feet, six inches.

On the track, Wooster’s Kelly Patton and Heather Reed totaled 20.34 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, good for fourth-place. Patton finished in 9.84 with Reed right behind in 10.51.

The Scots finished fifth in three of the true running relays – 1600, 3200, and distance medley – to round out their scoring. In the 1600, it was first-years Darcy Poland, Hannah LeGris, Nicole Calderone, and Sarah Hammond with a time of 4:37.90. Calderone was also part of the distance medley relay, joining forces with Ashley Zervos, Dana Doran-Myers, and Kathleen McCreary, as they completed it in 14:11.69. Doran-Myers led off the 3200, followed by Hannah Bierlein, Vanessa Georgeson, and Zervos, who crossed the finish line in 11:27.47.

In men’s action, Wooster’s best showings came in the field, taking fourth-place in the shot put and triple jump. Rick Drushal’s throw of 46 feet, 10 inches was second-best individually, while Marco Garcia backed him up with a mark of 35 feet, 4.25 inches. In the triple, the freshmen duo of Tristan Jordan and Seth Stuck totaled 73 feet, 2.75 inches, with 37 feet, 7.25 inches and 35 feet, 7.5 inches, respectively.

Another pair of freshmen – Ross Stevenson and Robert Olson – combined their efforts for a fifth-place performance in the high jump relay. Stevenson cleared five feet, eight inches, and Olson reached five feet, six inches.

The Scots best showings on the track were fifth-place in the 55-meter hurdles via Rob Kelm (8.58) and Matt Jensen (8.88) in 17.46, respectively, and sixth-place in the distance medley relay of Colin Turner, Stuck, Jonathan Prince, and Tim Presto (11:22.29).
