Patton is Scots’ Lone Winner at Wooster Classic
Several individuals of The College of Wooster track & field teams competed through cold, wet conditions Friday afternoon at the non-scoring Wooster Classic, highlighted by freshman Kelly Patton’s victory in the 100-meter hurdles. Patton nearly broke the 16-second barrier, crossing the finish line in 16.02 while edging the runner-up by two hundredths of a second (16.04). She also came in third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.40), with senior teammate Heather Reed right behind in fifth-place (1:11.30). The Scot women had two others events with multiple top-five finishers. In the 200 meters, freshman Margaret Howland was runner-up (27.70) and sophomore Alexandra Thonis came in fifth (29.20), while in the 400, freshman Darcy Poland took second (1:02.50) and junior Hannah Bierlein fifth (1:04.70). Also noteworthy, sophomore Katie Wieferich ran to a third-place showing in the 800 meters (2:29.70), freshman Cara Stoddard was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase (13:53.00), and senior Ada Smith placed fifth in the shot put (9.04 meters). For the Wooster men, sophomore thrower Rick Drushal led the way with third-place efforts in both the shot put (13.33 meters) and the discus (41.15 meters). As for the track events, senior David Ruttinger was the runner-up in the steeplechase (11:18.00), sophomore Rob Kelm came in fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:00.50), and junior Jonathan Prince tied for fourth-place in the 800 meters (2:00.40). The Wooster Classic was the final tune-up prior to next weekend’s conference meet. |
