After wrapping up a successful North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet last weekend, a six members of The College of Wooster track & field team were back in action on Thursday at the first annual Allegheny College Gator Invitational in hopes of earning qualifying marks for the NCAA Div. III Championships.

On the women’s side, Kayla Miller earned a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump, finishing second in the event. Her attempt of 11.36 meters was one meter farther than the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 11.35 meters and was the 16th best attempt recorded in Div. III thus far in the season.

Also competing for the Scot women was Ali Drushal, who placed fifth in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 35.78 meters.

For the Wooster men, Bryan Albani competed in a pair of hurdle events, narrowly missing a provisional qualifying mark in the 100 hurdles. Albani’s time of 14.96 seconds landed him a third-place finish and was just six-hundredths of a second shy of the qualifying mark of 14.9 seconds.  He also placed ninth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.70 seconds.

Eric Dyer competed in a pair of events, placing fifth in the triple jump (13.21 meters) and seventh in the long jump (6.00 meters), while teammate Tristen Jordan took third in the long jump with an attempt of 6.49 meters. Also competing for the Scots was Michael Cynkar, who ran to a 22nd-place showing in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 2:02.67.

Miller will now await word on her qualifying mark, in hopes of joining teammate Katie Wieferich, who earned an automatic qualifying mark in the 5,000 meter run at last weekend’s NCAC Championships, at the NCAA Div. III Championships, set to take place May 24-26 at Oshkosh, Wis.
