Scots Face Competitive Field at Greater Cleveland Championships
The College of Wooster track & field teams faced a tough competitive field while participating in their sixth meet of the 2007 season, as the Fighting Scot men placed fifth of nine teams and the women seventh of eight teams at Friday night’s Greater Cleveland Championships hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College. On the men’s side, the tandem of Tristan Jordan and Eric Dyer found success in several events. Jordan and Dyer finished 1-2 in the triple jump, with leaps of 42 feet, 4.25 inches and 41 feet, 9.75 inches, respectively, while Jordan placed sixth in the long jump (19 feet, 11 inches) and Dyer eighth (19 feet, 7 inches). The Scots were also quite successful in the 55 meter hurdles, with Dierre Taylor (7.92) and Bryan Albani (8.05) placing first and second, while teammate Matt Jensen took fifth (8.17). Tim Presto continued to have a strong indoor season, as he took third in the 500 meter run (1:10.76) and fourth in the 1000 meter run (2:41.99), while William Setliff and Paul Thompson finished fifth and sixth in the 500 meter run with times of 1:12.74 and 1:13.33, respectively. In the 5000 meter run, Terry Workman turned in a fifth-place showing, clocking in at 16:30.23, while Rick Workman finished seventh (16:38.47). Other top performances include Averell Gatton who took eight in the high jump, with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches and Steve Zumbrun who also took finished eight in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 3.5 inches. The women’s best performance of the evening came when Kayla Miller placed second in the triple jump, recording a distance of 32 feet, 11.75 inches. Also adding a top-three finish was Ali Drushal, who took third in the pole vault (9 feet, 6.5 inches), while teammate Sarah Wiswell was fifth in the event (9 feet, 0.25 inches). Drushal also took fifth in the 300 meter dash (45.98) and seventh in the 55 meter hurdles (9.92), while KateLynn Riley placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.23 seconds. Wooster will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 23, when it heads to fellow North Coast Athletic Conference institution Kenyon College for the Kenyon Invitational set to begin at 6 p.m. |
