The College of Wooster track & field team was one of several northeast Ohio schools competing at the first-ever Jack Hazen Open, hosted by Malone College this Saturday. It was a non-scoring meet.

Leading the Scots was Ali Drushal, as she had three top-four performances. The junior standout was the runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 115 feet, 5 inches and placed fourth in both the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.14) and pole vault (9 feet, 6.25 inches). Another fourth-place effort was contributed by freshman Suzanne Capehart in the 3200 meters (11:40.81), and making a big impact in more than one event was sophomore KateLynn Riley, who took sixth in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.20) and the javelin (100 feet, 9 inches).

Other noteworthy showings came from junior Katie Dale, who hit a mark of 35 feet, 5.25 inches for eighth-place in the shot put, and sophomore Sara Wiswell, who tied for eighth in the pole vault (8 feet, 6.25 inches).

Wooster’s men’s team, which has been hurt by injuries of late, was led by the jumpers once again. Senior Tristan Jordan and sophomore Jon Mathis were second-place finishers in the triple jump (43 feet, 2.25 inches) and high jump (6 feet, 2 inches), respectively. Sophomore Eric Dyer continued his strong season, as he was among the top-eight in both the triple jump and the long jump, third in the former (42 feet, 6.25 inches) and eighth in the latter (19 feet, 2.5 inches). In the high jump, junior Averell Gatton tied for fifth (5 feet, 10 inches) and freshman Sean Twining tied for eighth (5 feet, 6 inches).

Additional top-eight individual performances were Matt Jensen’s sixth-place run in the 110-meter hurdles (16.25) and Ramses Clements’ eight-place mark in the triple jump (40 feet, 0.75 inches).
