After former Scot women's director of athletics Nan Nichols inaugurated Galpin Park by throwing out the first pitch, the Scot softball team went on to christen its field by splitting a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Denison this afternoon (April 5). Wooster lost 8-0 in the opener, but shook off its nerves and rebounded to sneak away with a 1-0 win in game two. Game one was scoreless until the Big Red blasted their way to five runs in the top of the third led by pitcher Robin Sheskey's three-run home run. Denison added three more in the fifth inning, while Sheskey pitched a one-hit shutout to "run-rule" the Scots. Sophomore Kady Krivos' single was Wooster's lone hit in the opener, while freshman pitcher Anika Lehman took the loss, giving up four earned runs on six hits and two walks. The Scots' lone run in the bottom of the first was all the scoring there would be in the nightcap, as freshman pitcher Serena Sword threw her second shutout of the year. Sword baffled the Big Red, holing them to three hits and striking out four in game two. Wooster was unable to produce much offense either, as Denison's Courtney Zollars limited the Scots to a pair of hits, both coming from the bat of sophomore Kerri Horst. She singled and doubled, registered her first career stolen base, and scored the contest's lone run. Wooster, which now has a record of 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the NCAC, will head to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Carlow College Tournament this weekend (April 7-8).
