The College of Wooster softball team had its two-game winning streak ended today (April 19) by La Roche, as the host Redhawks swept the Scots 9-2 and 8-5 in non-league action. The Scots, who fell to 5-13 on the season, were plagued by poor defense throughout the doubleheader. In fact, 11 of La Roche's 16 runs were unearned. The Redhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one before Wooster tallied a run in the top of the third. La Roche responded with two runs in both the third and fourth innings to take control of the game. Scot sophomore Kady Krivos went 2-for-2 with a double in the opener and drove in a run, while freshman Sarah Moorhouse and senior Chris Wasiluk each singled. Freshman pitcher Anika Lehman took the loss, giving up eight hits and one walk, but only four of the runs she allowed were earned due to five Wooster errors. Game two saw the Scots take an early 1-0 lead, but the Redhawks answered with three in the bottom of the first. Wooster then tied it up in the second inning, only to see La Roche take the lead again with a run in the bottom-half of that frame. The Redhawks extended their lead to 6-3 in the fourth, however, the Scots scored two in the fifth to pull within striking distance. Finally, La Roche put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a three-run lead. Individually, sophomore Kerri Horst went 2-for-4 and scored twice for Wooster in the nightcap. Krivos had her third hit of the day - a single - and scored, while junior Kate Joynt singled and crossed the plate as well. Moorhouse, freshman Abby Petrullo, and sophomore Megan Hogue had singles too. On the mound, freshman Serena Sword surrendered seven hits and two walks, while dropping to 3-7 on the year. However, six of the eight runs that she allowed were unearned, caused by four Scot errors in game two. Wooster returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action in its next game on Tuesday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m., when they host Ohio Wesleyan.
