The College of Wooster softball team cruised to a 9-1 victory over Oberlin in today's (April 16) first game at Galpin Park, but needed to make a comeback to win the nightcap 3-2. With the victory the Scots improved to 5-11 in their first-year of varsity play since 1986, while the Yeowomen fell to 0-6 in their inaugural season. However, the contests did not count towards the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, as the two teams will play their league games at Oberlin on April 27. In the opener, Wooster exploded for eight runs in the second inning, while freshman Anika Lehman limited the Yeowomen to one run on six hits in the five-inning affair. Nearly every Scot tallied a hit in the first game with freshman Sarah Moorhouse leading the way with a single, a triple, and two runs batted in. Other Wooster offensive stars in game one included sophomores Megan Hogue, Kerri Horst, and Kady Krivos. Horst was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and a pair of stolen bases, while Hougue and Krivos each doubled. The Scots fell behind 1-0 and 2-1 in game two before rallying with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the victory. Wooster was unable to produce much offense, as Obelrin pitcher Sarah Kier gave up just two hits. But, Scot starter Serena Sword was just as effective, holding the Yeowomen to two runs on six hits and a bases on balls. Horst doubled in the game-winning runs, while junior Kate Joynt had the other hit - a single - for Wooster.
