Wooster Softball Team Drops Two to Wittenberg
Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
The College of Wooster softball team ran into some stiff
competition for the second day in a row, as host Wittenberg swept the Scots
in North Coast Athletic Conference action today (April 13) by scores of 5-0
and 13-2.
After being outscored by Allegheny 14-0 in two games the previous
day, Wooster's bats went cold for the second-straight afternoon. In fact,
the Tiger pitching staff combined to hold the Scot offense to five hits and
one walk in the two games.
In the opener, Wittenberg broke open a scoreless game in the bottom
of the fourth by scoring all five of the contest's runs in that frame.
Senior first baseman Jill Miller had Wooster's lone hit - a double - in the
first game, while Sword threw six innings and gave up eight hits in the
loss.
The nightcap saw the Scots take a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the
fourth inning before Wittenberg exploded for 12 runs off of Sword, who
pitched in both games for the first time this season. Offensively for
Wooster, freshman Abby Petrullo had two hits, including a double, while
junior Emily Gamber and freshman Anika Lehman each singled in the loss.
The Scots, who are 3-11 and 1-7 in the NCAC, look to end their
four-game losing streak when they host another first-year softball program
- Oberlin - at Galpin Park on Sunday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
