Scots to Wrap Up Dual-Meet Season at Grove City Saturday

In their final competitive tune-up prior to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, The College of Wooster swimmers and divers will be at Grove City College (8-3 men, 5-7 women) this Saturday, Feb. 2, for a dual, starting at 1 p.m. Last season, they matched-up in Wooster where the Wolverines’ men’s team edged the host Fighting Scots by a 164-134 count and the Wooster women cruised to a 212-76 triumph.
Last Week: On Jan. 26, the Scots’ men’s and women’s squads coasted to respective 133-57 and 138-33 victories over undermanned Wheeling Jesuit University teams. Wooster’s dual records improved to 8-1 (men) and 7-2 (women) for the 2007-08 campaign.
In the men’s competition, the Scots’ Logan LaBerge (Towson, Md. / Towson), Michael Saltzman (Evansville, Ind. / Asheville School – N.C.), and Joe Witkowski (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Groves) were all double-winners. Saltzman sprinted to first-place finishes in both the 100 freestyle (49.37) and the 200 freestyle (1:51.13), while Witkowski bested the distance fields in the 500 freestyle (5:24.86) and 1650 freestyle (18:45.15). LaBerge took top honors in the 200 backstroke (2:01.64) and the 200 IM (2:05.89). Other winners included Eric Babbitt (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Santa Margarita Catholic) in the 50 free (22.77), Matt Dominski (Winnetka, Ill. / New Trier Twp.) in the 200 butterfly (2:07.96), and Andrew Olsen (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Twp.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.92), as well as divers Alex Gauvin (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Community) and Dustin Klein (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel Area) on the one- (232.30) and three-meter boards (216.15), respectively.
On the women’s side, Meggie Edwards (Lynchburg, Va. / E.C. Glass) swept the 50 free (25.52) and the 200 backstroke (2:20.81) to lead Wooster. Additional first-place swims came from Molly Bittner (Westfield Ctr., Ohio / Cloverleaf) in the 200 free (2:06.03), Lizzie Deringer (Bexley, Ohio / Bexley) in the 500 freestyle (5:48.10), Lindsey Dorko (Chardon, Ohio / Perry) in the 200 IM (2:21.37), Tamari Farquharson (Kingston, Jamaica / Mercersburg Academy – Pa.) in the 100 free (56.83), Kristine Mann (Warren, Ohio / Howland) in the 200 butterfly (2:25.56), and Ashley Meyer (Cordova, Tenn. / Ridgeway) in the 1650 free (19:38.29). In diving, Caitlin McNulty (Sequim, Wash. / Sequim) won both the one-meter (209.30) and three-meter (207.55). |
