The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams will take part in a tournament-style event this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, as the Fighting Scots will be at the Veale Classic, hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. On Friday evening, Wooster will take on John Carroll University (1-2 men, 1-2 women) in a dual, starting at 5 p.m., followed by a match-up between fellow northeastern Ohio schools Oberlin College (0-2 men, 1-1 women) and host Case (1-1 men, 1-1 women). The two winners will advance to Saturday’s championship meet, scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, while the consolation will be at 10:30 a.m.

Last Week: On Nov. 3, the Scots split a non-conference meet at Ohio Northern University, with the women easily getting past the Polar Bears 176.5-119.5 but the men falling 166-127.

On the women’s side, Wooster’s Amanda Bailey (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake), Syd Kelly (Edina, Minn. / Edina), and Tamari Farquharson (Kingston, Jamaica / Mercersburg Academy – Pa.) were each double winners in individual events. Bailey was victorious in both the 200 freestyle and the 400 individual medley, stopping the clock with times of 2:04.96 and 5:00.41, respectively. Kelly touched first in the 100 breast (1:12.13) and 200 breast (2:36.05). Fahquharson beat the field to the wall in the 50 free (25.69) and tied Ohio Northern’s Cassandra Fennell to pick up 6.5 points in the 100 back (1:04.66).

Also earning first-place finishes for the Scots were Alice Case (Berkeley Hts., N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy) in the 100 fly (1:01.15), Molly Bittner (Westfield Ctr., Ohio / Cloverleaf) in the 100 free (55.97), Elaine Coladarci (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Twp.) in the 200 fly (2:27.60), Rachel Bennett (Tulsa, Okla. / B.T. Washington) in the 200 back (2:19.81), and diver Caitlin McNulty (Sequim, Wash. / Sequim) on the three-meter board (177.00).

In addition, both Wooster relay teams placed first, with the 400 medley team of May Tobar (Athens, Ohio / Athens), Kelly, Bittner, and Farquharson clocking in at 4:13.64, and the 400 free team of Farquharson, Bittner, Tobar, and Case teaming up for a time of 3:46.30.

Leading the Wooster men with individual wins were Logan LaBerge (Towson, Md. / Towson), Brendan Horgan (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy), and Ryan Radtke (Willoughby, Ohio / Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin). LaBerge took top honors in the 100 back (56.17), Horgan swam to a first-place showing in the 100 fly (54.85), and Radtke paced the field in the 400 individual medley (4:34.29).

The Scots also picked up a relay event victory, as the quartet of Michael Saltzman (Evansville, Ind. / Asheville School – N.C.), Horgan, Kyle Oaks (Franklin, Ind. / Franklin Community), and Ted Polley (Crawfordsville, Ind. / Crawfordsville) edged the competition in the 400 free (3:19.39).
