Scot Swimmers Go 5-1 In Weekend Meets


Beth Starling won both the 200 individual medley (2:17.39) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.59) on Saturday.
Upon returning from a winter training trip in Florida, the College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined to post a 5-1 record in a dual-meet at Baldwin-Wallace on Friday evening and a tri-meet against Case Western Reserve and Oberlin on Saturday afternoon at the friendly confines of Timken Natatorium.

The Scot men defeated Baldwin-Wallace 145-89, while the women prevailed over the Yellow Jackets by a score of 177-66. Saturday's action saw the Wooster men outscore Oberlin 145-59, while falling to Case Western Reserve 116-88. The Scot women completed the weekend sweep and improved to 6-0 on the season with victories over the Yeowomen and Lady Spartans by scores of 160-57 and 152-67, respectively.

Individually on Friday, the men's meet was highlighted by Wooster sophomore Seth Pack who was the lone doublewinner, picking up individual first-place finishes in both the 200 individual medley (2:09.16) and 500 freestyle (5:14.93). The women's meet featured three doublewinners for the Scots. Sophomore Sara Connolly was first in both the one-meter voluntary (166.15) and one-meter optional (144.65) diving competitions, senior Laura Dunn topped the field in the 100 freestyle (55.48) and 200 freestyle (2:00.78), and sophomore Jessica Ritchie won the 50 freestyle (25.52) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.13).

Picking up individual wins at the tri-meet on Saturday for the Wooster men were junior Wes Bennett in both the 50 freestyle (21.24) and the 100 freestyle (48.27) and Pack in the 200 freestyle (1:53.69). On the women's side, victorious Scots included Becki in the 400 individual medley (4:41.07) and 200 butterfly (2:14.14) events, freshman Jody Bray in the 500 freestyle (5:30.38), Connolly in both the one-meter (229.40) and three-meter (191.05) diving competitions, Dunn in the 200 backstroke (2:18.13), Ritchie in the 200 freestyle (1:59.66), and sophomore Beth Starling in both the 200 individual medley (2:17.39) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.59).
