Despite competing for the first time in over a month, The College of Wooster swimming teams looked as if they were in mid-season form on Saturday afternoon, as the men's and women's squads swept past North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin College and Case Western Reserve University in a tri-meet held in Oberlin, Ohio.

Wooster's women's team easily won its meet, totaling 123 points to Case Western Reserve's 60 points and Oberlin's 54 points, while the Scot men's team barely edged out the Spartans 87-84, followed by the Yeomen's 44-point total.

For the Wooster women, junior Jessica Ritchie led the way, taking first in the 50 freestyle (25.53) and 100 backstroke (1:02.02). Other individual winners were sophomore Jenny Bayuk in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.32), sophomore Jody Bray in the 500 freestyle (5:27.11), and freshman Sanya Tarasenkov in the 100 freestyle (57.06).

Additionally, the 200 freestyle relay of freshman Kayla Heising, freshman Tanya Tarasenkov, Ritchie, and junior Lori Mitskavich, as well as the 200 medley relay consisting of Ritchie, Bayuk, sophomore Erin Popelka, and Heising won their events with times of 1:45.45 and 1:53.63, respectively.

In men's action, senior Wes Bennett posted wins in the 50 freestyle (21.91) and the 100 freestyle (49.38), while freshman Jim Gilchrist was the Scots' other individual winner, hitting the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2:05.71).

Bennett also teamed with freshman Mike Moore, junior Eric Knauss, and senior Dale Edwards to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.81).

Both Wooster swimming teams return to action next Saturday, Jan. 20, for a road conference meet against Ohio Wesleyan University, starting at 1 p.m.
