Scot Swimmers Tally Wins Over John Carroll
The Scot women were able to easily improve to 3-0 in dual meets via sweeps in three events. In the 200 freestyle, sophomores Liz Whittam and Elizabeth Roesch, and junior Sonya Tarasenkov finished 1-2-3 with respective times of 2:00.14, 2:00.69, and 2:02.48. Additionally, sophomores Nicole Greene and Sarah Steele, and first-year Hannah Graff took the top-three places in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.80, 2:25.66, and 2:30.45, respectively, and in the 200 backstroke, freshman Patti Ross won (2:18.41), followed by junior Jen Jenkins as runner-up (2:22.21) and Greene in third (2:30.30). Both of the Wooster women's relays also produced first-place efforts. The team of Whittam, seniors Jenny Bayuk and Jody Bray, and junior Amy Clark won the 400 medley relay in the time of 4:09.60, while juniors Kayla Heising, Tanya Tarasenkov, Sonya Tarasenkov, and sophomore Kate Henley combined to take the 400 freestyle relay in 3:43.04. Rounding out the individual winners for the Scot women, Heising took the 50 freestyle (24.30), Tanya Tarasenkov won the 100 freestyle (56.07), Bray had top honors in the 500 freestyle (5:24.92), Noel Wells did so in the 1000 freestyle (11:21.72), and Clark and Bayuk won the 200 butterfly (2:21.51) and 200 breaststroke (2:31.37), respectively. In men's action, there were many first-place finishes as well for Wooster, highlighted by double wins for freshman Todd Koenig in the one-meter (183.75) and three-meter (168.70) diving competitions and freshman Joe Silvestri in the 50 (22.48) and 100 (50.20) freestyles. The Scots' two other winning races came from sophomore Kevin Wolfe in the 200 IM (2:11.97) and junior Jim Gilchrist in the 500 freestyle (11:04.50). Additionally, Wooster hit the wall first in one of the realys, as the 400 freestyle consisting of Silvestri, juniors Mike Moore and Curtis Wolfe, and sophomore Clint Nicely overtook John Carroll in 3:25.25. The Scots have another home meet this Saturday (Nov. 23) against Westminster (Pa.) College, with the opening race set for 1 p.m. |
