Scot Tankers Split for Third Time in Dual-Meet Action
The College of Wooster's women's swimming team stayed unbeaten in dual-meet action this year, this time going on the road to defeat Westminster (Pa.) College by a score of 126-79 to improve to 4-0. Also on Saturday (Nov. 22) in New Wilmington, Woosters mens squad slipped to 1-3 on the season after losing to the Titans, a high-quality non-conference opponent, by a 121-78 count. The women's meet featured three pool records and one individual NCAA qualifying time. Scot senior Kayla Heising led the way, winning the 50 freestyle in a Westminster Natatorium-record time of 24.23. Heising, who also posted a national-qualifying mark in the 50, helped the 200 medley relay team to a victory and pool record (1:51.89), as she was joined by sophomore Kim Chambers, junior Liz Whittam, and senior Tanya Tarasenkov. The third Westminster Natatorium record also came via the Wooster women, this time from junior Elizabeth Roesch, who set a new pool-best in the 500 freestyle (5:13.55) and also won the 1000 freestyle (10:45.04). Other Scot individual victors on Saturday included Chambers in both the 200 freestyle (1:58.79) and the 200 backstroke (2:12.99), Whittam in both the 400 individual medley (4:47.31) and the 100 backstroke (1:12.39), and Sonya Tarasenkov in the 100 freestyle (57.05). Additionally, Heising, the Tarasenkov twins, and junior Nicole Greene teamed up to hit the wall first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.94). In men's action, Woosters results were highlighted by freshman Nate Bray, who was victorious in the 1000 freestyle (10:42.62). The senior trio of Sam Almy, Jim Gilchrist, and Curtis Wolfe, and first-year Brandon DuGar took second in the 200 medley relay (1:45.96), while individually, DuGar and Gilchrist were runners-up in the 100 freestyle (51.53) and 200 backstroke (2:07.78), respectively. The Scot swimmers and divers will not compete this week due to Thanksgiving break, and will return to action on Dec. 4-6, when they host the Wooster Invitational at the Ellen Shapiro Natatorium in the Wooster YMCA. |
