The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams earned a split in their dual meet with John Carroll University on Saturday (Nov. 12) afternoon, as the men stayed undefeated this season (4-0) with a 181-124 victory, while the women fell in a close contest 141-148 to move to 2-2 on the year.

The Scot men won 10 of 14 swimming events on the day, including the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays in 1:43.42 and 1:32.42, respectively. Wooster was particularly dominant in the breaststroke events, claiming the top-three positions in the 100 as well as going 1-2 in the 200. Sophomore Mateo Chinchilla finished first in both races, touching the wall in 1:07.65 in the 100 to beat out Andrew Rudawsky (1:10.40) and Shabad Thadani (1:11.19), and then edging out first-year Andrew Olsen (2:27.69) by .58 seconds for a victory in the 200.

Junior Dan Noble also posted two wins on the day in the 200 butterfly (2:08.93) and 100 freeestyle (51.27), while other big winners for Wooster included senior David Brumbaugh in the 100 backstroke (59.72), sophomore Kyle Oaks in the 200 backstroke (2:20.69), and sophomore Matt Dominski in the 100 butterfly (56.48).

On the women’s side, the Scots won nine of 14 swimming events, but depth played a key role as John Carroll continually claimed the majority of the scoring positions.

Senior Kim Chambers posted three individual wins, first claiming the 200 freestyle in dominating fashion, winning the event by almost nine seconds, followed by wins in the 200 backstroke (2:12.54) and 100 butterfly (1:01.43). Sophomore Amanda Bailey also posted multiple wins with victories in the 1000 freestyle (11:22.82) and the 400 IM (5:00.69), while also finishing second in the 500 freestyle (5:38.20).

Wooster’s other two individual victories came from senior Patti Ross in the 100 backstroke (1:04.34) and first-year Molly Bittner in the 100 freestyle (57.34). The Scots also won the 200 medley relay (1:58.15) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.01).

The Scots’ dual meet season continues next Saturday, Nov. 19, at Westminster (Pa.) College in New Wilmington, Pa., at 1 p.m.
