The College of Wooster swimming and diving season got underway Saturday afternoon with the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays hosted by Kenyon College. The Scot men jumped up five spots from last season by placing fourth in the nine-team field, while the Scot women fell two spots with a fifth-place showing.

Sporting the biggest roster in program history, the Wooster men consistently had all three of its competing relays finish near the middle in each competition. The highest finish came in the 200 breaststroke relay where first-years Andrew Rudawsky, Andrew Olsen, and Bill Raines, teamed with sophomore Mateo Chinchilla to touch the wall ninth overall in a time of 2:05.59.

The Wooster men also had two 10th-place finishes in the 200 butterfly and 200 freestyle relays. In the fly, the veteran team of sophomore Matt Dominski, seniors David Brumbaugh and Scott Britton, and junior Dan Noble touched the wall in 1:44.81. Then Dominski and Noble teamed with Rudawky and sophomore Kyle Oaks for a 1:33.51 finish in the 200 free.

Despite falling two spots in this year’s meet, the Scot women had some impressive showings, including five top-10 finishes. Senior Kim Chambers served as the anchor for Wooster’s highest placements on the day, first teaming with freshmen Molly Bittner and Meggie Edwards and sophomore Amanda Bailey for a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle relay (4:51.23), and then combining with Bittner, Edwards, and sophomore Denise Koessler for fourth (1:42.65) in the 200 freestyle relay.

Earlier in the day, Edwards, freshman Lindsey Dorko, Chambers, and Koessler touched the wall eighth overall in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:55.37. Edwards and Chambers teamed up once again the next event, teaming with senior Noel Wells and Bailey for ninth (1:57.95) in the 200 backstroke relay.

Wooster’s season begins in earnest next weekend with a pair of dual meets. First, the Scots will host Mt. Union College in Timken Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, Oct. 29, Wooster will head to Wittenberg University to battle the Tigers at 1 p.m.
