Fighting Scots Fare Well in Highly-Competitive Meet
The College of Wooster swimming & diving teams faced off against three other high-caliber NCAA Div. III programs in Calvin College, host Denison University, and Westminster (Pa.) College on Saturday in Canton, Ohio and came away with several top finishes. Calvin and Denison both traditionally finish among the top-10 at the national meet, while Westminster and the Fighting Scots typically have multiple qualifiers for the NCAA meet as well. Highlighting the team results was the Scot women, who defeated Westminster by a 127-104 margin. Individually, Wooster had several top-five finishers in the highly-competitive meet. Leading the Scot men was Logan LaBerge, who placed fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56:89. Brandon Dugar earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 butterfly, touching at 55:09, while Kyle Oaks also finished fifth in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 49.44. LaBerge and Dugar were also member of Wooster’s fourth-place 200 medley relay team, who along with Andrew Olsen and Daniel Noble , finished with a time of 1:40.21. On the women’s side, Meggie Edwards swam to a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.95, while Syd Kelly placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:09.86. Alice Case (2:00.40) and Amanda Bailey (11:30.30) both took home fifth place honors in the 200 freestyle and 1000 freestyle, respectively. Additionally, Wooster had two relay teams finish fourth. Case, Edwards and Kelly were joined by Molly Bittner in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:53.74, while Bittner, Denise Koessler, Kate Kosenick and Allie Kibler-Campbell swam the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:42.93. In the diving competition, Aaron Bergman placed fifth in both the one-meter and three-meter competition, with scores of 176.33 and 157.11, respectively. For the women, Julie Pinzur took home fourth in the three-meter competition with a score of 156.90 and place fifth in the one-meter event, scoring a 178.20. The Scots will have a one-week layoff before resuming action after the Thanksgiving holiday when they host the annual Wooster Invitational, held Thursday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 2. |
