The College of Wooster volleyball program will welcome five other teams – Alma College (2-2), Carnegie Mellon University (1-3), Mt. Union College (4-0), Muskingum College (3-1), and Westminster College (2-2) – to Timken Gymnasium this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, for the 6th annual Kilt Classic. There will be a different format this year with each squad playing four matches, as opposed to pool play and then bracket play to determine a tournament champion. Wooster will take on Alma on Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Westminster at approximately 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, the Fighting Scots will match-up with Mt. Union and Muskingum at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Noteworthy, Mt. Union and Wooster met in the 2006 Kilt Classic and the Purple Raiders prevailed in four games (30-13, 28-30, 30-26, 30-27), sending the Scots to a 4th-place finish. Wooster did not play Alma, Muskingum, or Westminster last season.

Last Week: The Scots’ 2007 debut resulted in a 1-3 record at the Ohio Northern Invitational.

On Aug. 31-Sept. 1, Wooster upended the College of Mount St. Joseph in five games (26-30, 32-30, 26-30, 30-28, 15-12), highlighting the Scots’ four-match swing at the ONU Sports Center. Mount St. Joseph was a participant in the 2006 NCAA Div. III Tournament. Before downing the Lions on Friday, Wooster lost to Carnegie Mellon in four close games (30-26, 18-30, 30-27, 30-28). Saturday’s action saw the Scots swept at the hands of Hope College (30-13, 30-16, 30-26) and No. 15 ranked Ohio Northern (30-22, 30-16, 30-15). Statistically, Wooster was paced by senior Erin Wright (Akron, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) in the kill department with 40 successful spikes and a .265 attack percentage, while setting the ball was senior Heather Wolff (Mansfield, Ohio / Madison Comprehensive), averaging 9.93 assists per game. On the defensive side, junior libero Ali Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) led the way with 5.33 digs per game, and sophomore Sarah Lorch (Lexington, Ky. / Henry Clay) and Wright totaled 11 blocks apiece.
