Volleyball Splits At Defiance
The College of Wooster volleyball team split a pair of matches on
Saturday (Sept. 16) in Defiance, Ohio, losing a five-game heartbreaker to
Tiffin and then sweeping the host Lady Jackets.
Against Tiffin, Wooster got off to a slow start losing game one
15-5, but the Scots rebounded and took game two in decisive fashion 15-1.
The Lady Dragons answered taking game three 15-9, but once again Wooster
responded and won game four 15-9. Playing their first fifth game of the
year, the Scots competed hard but fell once again by the score of 15-9.
Turning in solid performances in the Tiffin match were junior Holli
Camelio, sophomore Erin Donnell, and junior Jen Petkovsek. Camelio had nine
kills and a squad-best 24 assists, Donnell led the way in both kills (18)
and digs (19), and Petkovsek added 17 digs and a team-high three blocks.
After the tough loss to the Lady Dragons, Wooster responded well,
cruising to a 15-2, 15-12, 15-12 win over Defiance and snapping its
four-match losing streak.
Donnell once again had a team-best in kills with 13, while
sophomore Beth Moore led the way in assists (17). Donnell and sophomore
Megan Burgdorf each registered 13 digs, while Camelio tallied 11 assists
and eight kills.
