Volleyball Loses to John Carroll 3-0
In its home opener on Wednesday evening (Sept. 13), The College of
Wooster volleyball team put up a good fight, but fell to John Carroll
University in three straight games.
After a week-long layoff from competition, Wooster got off to a
slow start in game one, falling behind 7-1. However, with sophomore Beth
Moore serving, the Scots reeled off six consecutive points to tie the game.
The teams then traded points, but John Carroll eventually pulled away and
took the opening game 15-11.
The Blue Streaks dominated Wooster at the outset of game two,
taking a 14-4 lead before the Scots put together a stirring comeback.
Wooster won the next 10 points to tie the game, but then committed a back
row attack violation. John Carroll took advantage of that mistake and won
the next two points to clinch the game 16-14.
After coming so close in game two, an emotional letdown did Wooster
in, as the Blue Streaks won game three with ease 15-1.
Statistically, sophomore Erin Donnell had a team-high nine kills,
followed closely by junior Holli Camelio with eight kills. Moore had a
squad-best 16 assists in the losing effort, while junior Jen Petkovsek
registered five blocks on the night.
Wooster, which has dropped its last three matches after starting
the year 4-0, will travel to Defiance, Ohio, for a pair of non-league
contests on Saturday (Sept. 16) against Tiffin at 1 p.m., and then the host
Lady Jackets at 3 p.m.
