Volleyball Starts Out 2-0 For First Time Since '94
The Terri Mason era started off on a positive note, as The College
of Wooster's volleyball team opened the 2000 campaign under its new head
coach with a pair of victories on Friday (Sept. 1) at the Oberlin
Tournament. The Scots, who opened last season by losing their first 10
matches, downed Pitt-Johnstown 3-1 in the opening match and then swept
Bethany 3-0.
After losing game one to the Lady Cats 15-7, Wooster took control
of the match, winning 15-11, 15-13, and 15-10. Leading the Scots were
sophomore Erin Donnell and junior Pieta Horvath, who had 11 and 10 kills,
respectively. Junior Holli Camelio turned in a solid performance, topping
the team in assists with 21 and digs with 12. In addition, sophomore Beth
Moore added 20 assists, while junior Jen Petkovsek registered a squad-best
seven blocks.
Match two saw the Scots edge Bethany 16-14 in game one, and then go
on to win games two and three in decisive fashion by scores of 15-8 and
15-11. Camelio exhibited her versatility by tallying 12 kills to lead the
team in that category, while Moore recorded a team-high 26 assists. Also,
Donnell led the way in digs with 13 and sophomore Megan Burgdorf had three
service aces.
