WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster women's basketball team, after a disappointing seventh-place finish last season, was picked to finish in the middle-third of the nine-team North Coast Athletic Conference during Thursday's NCAC Basketball Media Day.

The coaches expected the Scots to finish alone in sixth-place, just behind Kenyon College in fifth, while the media also picked Wooster in sixth behind the Ladies.

Wittenberg University came out the winner by a narrow margin in both polls, beating out Allegheny College in the coaches' poll and Ohio Wesleyan University in the media poll. The Tigers totaled 15 first-place nods - five from the coaches and 10 from the 24-member media - and 74 of 90 points from the coaches and 194 of 216 from the media.

The bottom-third of each poll consisted of Earlham College, Oberlin College, and Hiram College in that order.

Wooster, under the direction of eighth-year coach Lisa Campanell Komara, returns 10 letterwinners, including seven with starting experience. The Scots will be a post-oriented team, led by honorable-mention All-NCAC selection Michelle Hall, who led the team in nearly every statistical category, including points (287), points per game (11.0), total rebounds (195), and minutes played (28.1).

The Scots will make their 2004-05 debut on Nov. 20-21, when they play host to Albion College, University of Pittsburgh-Bradford, and Washington & Jefferson College for the Nan Nichols Classic.
