Following a brief break for Thanksgiving, The College of Wooster will look to get in the win column this Sunday, Nov. 25, when it welcomes Lake Erie College (1-1) to Timken Gymnasium for the third of the Fighting Scots’ five home games to start the season. Opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wooster has beaten Lake Erie all nine times the teams have met on the hardwood, including twice last year – 85-52 at Wooster and 65-48 at Lake Erie.

Last Week: An inexperienced Scot team lost both games of its annual tournament, the 12th Annual Nan Nichols Classic, to start the season 0-2.

On Nov. 16, Wooster fell to visiting Misericordia University during the opening round of the Nan Nichols Classic by the slimmest of margins, as the Cougars secured a 65-64 decision after a couple of last-second shots by the Scots fell off the rim. Wooster was ahead 64-60 with just under a minute to go, but Misericordia hit a clutch 3-pointer, then forced a turnover and converted on a runner in the lane with :10 remaining to take a one-point lead. The Scots inbounded the ball to Kym Wenz (Avon Lake, Ohio / Avon Lake), who had scored a game-high 19 points, and she drove the ball the length of the floor, but her shot was off the mark, as was a quick put-back attempt. Wenz also contributed seven rebounds from her guard position, as well as four assists and three steals, while Kaitlin Krister (Kent, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) tallied 16 points, eight boards, and seven blocked shots, the latter two being team-highs.

On Nov. 17, Wooster bounced back from the previous day’s heartbreaker and jumped out to an 11-point lead (29-18) on the State University of New York at Fredonia, but the Blue Devils steadily chipped away and emerged as 61-55 victors. The Scots were ahead 29-22 at halftime and continued to fend off SUNY Fredonia until there were about seven minutes to go. After the game was tied for the sixth time (46-46), the Blue Devils went on a game-clinching 13-3 rally. Individually, Krister posted the first double-double of her career with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman guard Taylor Keegan (Mohrsville, Pa. / Holy Name) provided Wooster with a boost as she scored 13 points, including 3-of-5 3-point shooting.

All-Tournament Team: For her efforts at the 12th annual Nan Nichols Classic, sophomore post Kaitlin Krister (Kent, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) was named to the all-tournament team. She combined for 29 points on 11-of-13 field goal shooting (.846) as well as 19 rebounds, eight blocked shots, and three steals in the two games, while establishing herself as one of Wooster’s go-to players. Also noteworthy, Krister’s seven blocks against Misericordia marked the second-highest total for a single-game in school history.
