Paced by double-doubles from each of its members of the starting frontcourt, The College of Wooster women's basketball team upped its record to 3-2 and evened its North Coast Athletic Conference mark to 1-1 with a 70-60 win at Hiram College (1-4, 0-2 NCAC) on Wednesday night.

Wooster junior Nara DeJesus (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) posted her usual 15-point, 14-rebound performance, marking her fourth double-double on the year, but the Scots received a pleasant surprise from freshman Alexis Louttit (Shreve, Ohio / West Holmes), who was making her second career start. The 5-10 forward scored a game-high 18 points and corralled 11 rebounds.

Wooster scored the first eight points of the game and opened up a 13-point lead (22-9) midway through the opening half before Hiram got back into it with an 11-2 run to cut the Scot advantage to four. Wooster closed out the first 20 minutes strong with a 9-3 rally to take a 34-23 halftime lead.

The Terriers pulled within five on five different occasions in the second half, but could never get closer, as the Scots continued to shoot well from the free throw line and sealed the victory from there. Overall, Wooster was 21-of-30 from the charity stripe, including 9-of-12 during the final 2:17.

Statistically, the difference in the game was that the Scots controlled the glass, grabbing 57 rebounds to Hiram's 39. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball from the floor, as Wooster ended up at 39.0 percent (23-of-59) from the field and Hiram managed just 33.3 percent (21-of-63).

Although no other Scot players reached double-digits in scoring, head coach Lisa Campanell Komara did receive several other strong contributions. Sophomores Jen Flavin (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton-LaSalle) and Lindsey Schaaff (Loveland, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) scored eight points apiece, while freshman point guard Molly Rallo (Aurora, Ohio / Beaumont School) added a defensive spark with six steals.Ö

For the Terriers, Terra Roane and Valerie Goudy pitched in 15 and 11 points, respectively.

This Friday (Dec. 7) and Saturday (Dec. 8), the Scots will host the 6th annual Nan Nichols Tournament at Timken Gymnasium. Thomas More College (4-3) and Westminster (Pa.) College (2-3) will kickoff the tourney at 6 p.m. on Friday and Notre Dame College (1-7) will meet Wooster at approximately 8 p.m., while the consolation and championships games will be Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
