WOOSTER, Ohio -  The College of Wooster women’s basketball team surged out to an early 11-2 lead in the first four minutes of action, only to watch visiting Case come storming back to take control, handing the Fighting Scots their second loss in as many outings by a 71-59 score.

Opening buckets by Maria Gonzalez, Kym Wenz and Winnie Adrien gave Wooster nine-point lead with 16:04 left in the period, before the visiting Spartans (4-1) would go on a 13-4 run, to knot the game at 15 halfway through the frame. Case outscored the Scots by a 19-9 margin the remainder of the period, taking a comfortable 34-24 lead into the break.

The second period saw Case in control, holding onto a double-digit lead through the early minutes. A lay-up by Angela Evans brought Wooster within eight with 12:09 left to play, but the Spartans continued to put points on the board, extending their lead to as much as 17 with 4:42 remaining. Wooster pulled within 11 on an Adrien lay-up, but could get no closer, as Case went on to win.

Leading Wooster for the third consecutive game was Carly Loehrke, who recorded a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Wenz wound up with 12 markers and six boards, while Adrien and Gonzalez evenly divided 16 points.

For the game, the Scots shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field, while Case made nearly 50 percent of their shots from the floor on 29-of-61 shooting. The Spartans also held a 41-36 advantage on the boards.

Wooster looks to start the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule off on a good note, as it returns to Timken Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 2 for a 1:00 p.m. match-up with Earlham College.
